On the day of Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, her mother Shweta Bachchan and grandmother Jaya Bachchan keep their point of view. This time Jaya asked why nowadays Indian women have mostly started wearing western clothes? According to Jaya, by doing this she is losing her power. Women are adopting ‘man power’ by wearing pants, why did Jaya Bachchan say?

These days Navya Naveli Nanda’s ‘What the Hell Navya’ podcast is becoming a huge hit. Mother Shweta Bachchan and Nani Jaya Bachchan are making many revelations in conversation with Navya. Navya, Shweta and Jaya share their views on the difficulties and struggles faced by all three women. During this conversation, Jaya asked why is it that nowadays Indian women mostly wear western clothes? Jaya also pointed out how it is taking away their own power from women.
Indian clothes meets ‘Women Power’
In the podcast, Jaya asked a question to both Shweta and Navya that why women are wearing more western clothes these days? On this, Shweta, who was sitting ready with the answer, immediately said – to ease her antics. In today’s date, many women are not confined to home only. She goes out, does a job. It is much easier to wear pants and a T-shirt than to wear a saree. You find it easy to work.
Jaya Bachchan disagreed with daughter Shweta’s statement. According to Jaya, by wearing pants, you adopt ‘man power’ and forget your ‘woman power’. Jaya said- I do not say that wearing saree all the time is the only option. But there should be such clothes for women which are designed only for them, which shows their power.
Dedicated clothes for women
Jaya said that- I believe that we have unknowingly accepted man power. I want to see a woman… adopting the power of a woman only. I am not saying go wear saree or women should wear only saree, there are other options. This is just an example. Women of western civilization also used to wear dresses earlier. All this changed when he started wearing pants.
Navya also added her point on Jaya Bachchan’s words and said that everyone should wear clothes according to their comfort. Citing the example of Falguni Nair, founder of Nykaa Cosmetics and Fashion Company, Navya said that I have never seen her wearing anything other than a saree. In fact, when she came to the Bombay Stock Exchange, when she took her company public, she still wore a saree. Jaya also agreed with granddaughter Navya and said that she is a self-made woman.
