The new building is 17,000 square meters larger than the old Parliament House. It has been built over an area of 64,500 square meters. According to the information, this contract was given to Tata Projects in 2020 for Rs 861.9 crore. The cost of which was later increased to about Rs 1,200 crore.
This price had increased due to increase in GST rate. With the completion of the new Parliament House, the old Parliament House will be converted into a museum.This building is completely earthquake resistant, whose design has been prepared by ‘HCP Design, Planning and Management Private Limited’. Its architect is Bimal Patel. The new building of Parliament has the facility of seating more than 1200 MPs at a time. In this, 888 MPs can sit in Lok Sabha and 384 MPs can sit in Rajya Sabha. A beautiful constitution room has also been constructed in the new building.

Actually, the current Parliament House was built 95 years ago in 1927. In March 2020, the government told the Parliament that the old building has been overutilized and is deteriorating.
Along with this, the seats which will increase after the new delimitation of Lok Sabha seats, there is not enough space in the old building for the MPs to sit. For this reason a new building is being constructed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament House on 10 December 2020. So far, 26,045 metric tonnes of steel, 63,807 metric tonnes of cement and 9689 cubic meters of fly ash have been used in the construction of the new building of the new Parliament House.
