Apart from acting as a fungicide, baking soda does this work in the garden-

  • It keeps the leaves and flowers of the plants clean.

Advantages-

  • Its cheaper than fungicides and pesticides and gets the job done.
  • It greatly reduces the effect of insects in plants.

Disadvantages

  • Sodium, the first compound of baking soda, can weaken the roots if added in excess. It can also affect other parts of the plant.
  • Another problem would be that if more baking soda is applied to the plants, it deposits the sodium bicarbonate in the plants and soil. In such a situation, the nutrients of the soil are reduced and the growth of plants is slow.

It is important to note a few things-

  • Do not add too much baking soda.
  • Always spray it, do not wash the leaves directly or pour it into the soil.
  • Do a patch test before applying. Try putting it on 1 leaf and wait 24 hours to see if nothing else has happened.
  • Always apply it in the evening because if you put it in the sun, the plant can get burnt by the heat of the sun and baking soda.

Leave it on the plants for 24 hours, after that spray plain water on the plants. If you have a lot of insects in your plants, then you can repeat it once a week. If you are using baking soda, be careful not to use any other chemical on the plants.
